Photographing many weddings around Greenville and the upstate, I noticed most have one moment when it truly becomes fun for the bride and groom. So, when does the wedding become fun?

In Greenville a few years ago, while doing the wedding photography at an event, I noticed the one time in most weddings that the bride and groom look like they are starting to relax and have fun. It’s the time that the party truly gets started.

I’ve said before, I love to photograph weddings because of all the energy, excitement and love. While most guests see all the love, joy and fun the couple, friends and family are having it normally doesn’t start off that way. As the wedding photographer, I’m normally one of the first ones at the event. While it’s an exciting time, it’s not all fun.

Before the groom takes the first steps to the front of the aisle, there is a lot that goes on. At a lot of venues, you have to setup the day of. That means you must arrange tables, chairs, make sure the bar and food will be ready in time, put out the cake, arrange the flowers, setup the DJ and dance floor…etc. So, is it time to have fun yet? Well you decide. You then must have the mothers, bride and bridesmaids get their hair and makeup done. Then the bride, bridesmaids, groom and groomsmen all must get dressed. While all of this is going on there will be pictures being taken and you might have a first look too. Bride and groom must give their presents to each other, and any group pictures with friends and family beforehand.

So, now is it time to party? Surely you get to relax now? Only if you have memorized all your lines and vows, know exactly where to stand at the ceremony and the correct pace to get there.

Yes, before the first guest arrives thing can get pretty stressful and chaotic. Just stay calm and remember everything doesn’t have to go perfectly. It’s your day and the most important part is that you are married at the end of it. Everything else is a blessing.

So, when do you see the bride and groom relax? It’s right after the “I Do”. Before then you see all the excitement and joy in their face, but you also see the stress from trying to meet all the deadlines and remembering exactly what they are supposed to do.

It’s amazing the difference from the bride and groom walking down the aisle to when they walk back up as husband and wife. For better or for worse they did it. While photographing so many weddings, it’s at that moment I can tell most couple look relaxed, happy and so in love.

Now it’s time to get the party started!
